New MTV App Features Enhanced Second-Screen And Social Media Elements

The latest innovations in video’s rapid evolution are second-screen viewing capabilities and social media integration. MTV is capitalizing on these trends with a new app for iPhone and iPad launched by its parent company, Viacom. This will be the first on-demand app for MTV and it will allow viewers to watch full episodes of Awkward, Teen Mom, Teen Wolf and other popular MTV shows with the added benefits of second-screen viewing capabilities and improved social media features. Retro MTV shows will also be accessible on the app. TheVerge.com reported on how Viacom is introducing these state-of-the-art app additions in an effort to expand MTV’s appeal to a younger audience.

While Viacom had previously offered second-screen apps for various MTV and VH1 programs, these will now be consolidated into this single app. Socially speaking, the new app will allow users to connect to Facebook Chat, access their Twitter accounts and watch much more content from their favorite MTV shows by simply signing in with their TV provider.

According to Viacom, the new MTV app will help strengthen the brand and connect their U.S. fans.

The app is free, but Viacom is currently seeking to monetize this new content through advertising sponsorships. One of Viacom’s launch partners is Pepsi, which will have exclusive access to segments of the app’s music section. The new app will be available on Android and Xbox by year end.
